Maciej Kasperlik
* 1801, † 1865,
He was born on 24.2.1801 in Błędowice Dolne as the son of Jan, a local teacher. He attended secondary school in Cieszyn, Přiboře in Moravia, and then once again in Cieszyn. He studied philosophy in Olomouc and law in Vienna, graduating in 1829 and taking on the job of managing the estate of the Duke of Lamberg in Ottenstein in Lower Austria, where he wrote the history of the family and castle. He then worked from 1839 as a clerk for land affairs in the Cieszyn Cabinet until he became its director in 1849. He made his name by introducing many innovations in agricultural and forestry management in the Cabinet’s estate, and in the steel industry. From 1850 he was also a member of Cieszyn’s city authorities, and then again in 1861 and 1864. In addition, he was elected to the Provincial Parliament in Opawa in 1861. In 1864, the Emperor raised him to the rank of a noble and conferred on him the title “von Teschenfeld”. He was also made an honorary citizen of the town of Frydek. He died on 29.11.1865 at Cieszyn castle.
Kasperlik was the author of several historical works, and he compiled a volume of the history of Frydek, which was actually an outline of the history of the Duchy of Cieszyn up until the end of the 16th century. He also collected material for the publication of Cieszyn Silesia’s diplomatic code, which has partly survived to this today.
